About Me

Charlotte BarrowMy name is Charlotte Barrow. Like many therapists, I bring to my practice the wide variety of approaches and techniques which I have acquired, through first-hand experience, over the years. For me, it is the holistic approach which is important, seeing the client as a whole person and thus working with the emotional and mental as well as taking account of the physical. I work mainly with individuals, but also with couples (therapy) and with animals and children of all ages (flower essences).

My initial training was with the Foundation for Emotional Therapy, in the 1990s. This is a form of counselling or therapy which takes particular notice of the inner child (also known as cellular memory). Soon after acquiring their Certificate (the Foundation’s higher of two levels of qualification), I began to increase the variety of flower essences I use in my practice; having begun to use the Bach remedies on myself, friends and families some 25 years ago, I now use ranges from Alaska, Canada, Australia, the United States and Scotland. For specific problems, I offer solution-focused therapy, which is for an agreed number of sessions and may include the use of flower essences if wanted. I also offer Emotional Stress Release, having trained in Advanced Dowsing Techniques with Joy Lange MAR MSR in 1999/2000; this usually occurs as part of the general work of Emotional Healing.

I have a full-time complementary practice in Oxford (near the eastern by-pass [A2412], with unrestricted parking, and on several bus routes). Appointments are available during the week (daytime and evening). Some low-cost places are available, subject to any waiting list. Telephone sessions may be possible if reasons of health or geography prevent you coming to Oxford, and are always used for flower essence consultations for young children or pets.

Professional memberships and qualifications

I am a participant in the Independent Practitioners’ Network (IPN), being a member of the Oxford Group, and an Associate Member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP). I am an Advanced Practitioner Member of the British Flower and Vibrational Essences Association (BFVEA). I hold a Certificate from the Foundation for Emotional Therapy (FET (Cert)),  and have a Certificate in Advanced Dowsing and Stress Release Techniques. I also hold a Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology from the International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).

Short Thoughts
  • Each on our own journey…

Don’t compare your life to others: you have no idea what their journey is all about
I love this anonymous quotation; it is a reminder that if we find something difficult, or hurtful, or upsetting then no one has the right to tell us not to mind, or not to be silly!

  • HAPPINESS IS…

Happiness doesn’t depend on how much you have got to enjoy…it depends on how much you enjoy what you have (Anon.).

Success Stories
  • A happy ending

Susan came to see me because she was unhappy in her marriage, yet did not want to leave her husband. Together we explored the roots of the unhappiness, and she realised that she was once again experiencing many of the uncomfortable feelings she had had as a child - feelings such as being ignored, put [...]

  • From the horse’s mouth…

Sometimes there is nothing better than a client’s own words to tell a story- or in this case, the words of the client’s owner, since Morgan is a horse. Tamzin emailed me twice. The first time she said:
Given the wind and gales this week, I’d expect Morgan to be very difficult (usually he would jump [...]
