A happy life
‘A happy life is just a string of happy moments; but most people don’t allow the happy moment because they are too busy trying to get a happy life.’ (Abraham-Hicks)

Here are some Short Thoughts - though some are longer than others! Why not bookmark this page and scroll down the page from time to time, just picking out a box? It will almost certainly be one that really means something to you at that moment.

‘History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.’
These words of Maya Angelou are as true of an individual’s history as of the history of nations.
Don’t compare your life to others: you have no idea what their journey is all about
I love this anonymous quotation; it is a reminder that if we find something difficult, or hurtful, or upsetting then no one has the right to tell us not to mind, or not to be silly!
Happiness doesn’t depend on how much you have got to enjoy…it depends on how much you enjoy what you have (Anon.).
Would you say that now is all too often seen as a time of crisis? Did you know that the Chinese character for ‘crisis’ is made up of the characters for ‘danger’ and ‘opportunity’…and that the character for ‘to listen’ contains those for ‘you’, ‘ear’, ‘eyes’, ‘undivided attention’ and ‘heart’.
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. A teacher is not one who gives you anything – a true teacher is one who makes you aware of what you already have and encourages you to use it. You are your own greatest teacher.
So when you say, or think, ‘I need help!’, remember that help will come most powerfully from you…and remember too that it is all right to find a teacher to help you tap into that resource you already carry within you.
Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words.
Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions.
Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits.
Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values.
Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny.
Mahatma Gandhi
There are friends for a season, friends for a reason and friends for life.
Sometimes we regret the loss of a friend, but if we can see that they were, in fact, a friend for a reason - what did we learn from them? what did they learn from us? - or for a season - what area of our life has really ended now? - then we can say Goodbye with regret, but also with gratitude.
Hans Christian Andersen said, ‘When the bird of the heart begins to sing, too often will Reason stop up her ears.’
How easy do you find it to follow your heart rather than your head? Does it make a difference if you are aware that your head - Reason - might be stopping up your ears so that you can no longer hear the singing of your heart?
What does ‘the present’ mean to you? Here are two thoughts to ponder:
1. The past is history, the future is unknown but right now is a gift – and that’s why we call it the present.
2. Whatever is around the corner will come in its own time and in its own way; so why not stay in the present?

Susan came to see me because she was unhappy in her marriage, yet did not want to leave her husband. Together we explored the roots of the unhappiness, and she realised that she was once again experiencing many of the uncomfortable feelings she had had as a child - feelings such as being ignored, put [...]
Sometimes there is nothing better than a client’s own words to tell a story- or in this case, the words of the client’s owner, since Morgan is a horse. Tamzin emailed me twice. The first time she said:
Given the wind and gales this week, I’d expect Morgan to be very difficult (usually he would jump [...]
